An overview of the top virtual environments to display your collection

The digital has many advantages compared to the physical, one of them being the ability to display your collection in a virtual gallery. We’ll explore the top metaverses (blockchain-based virtual worlds), and virtual spaces to showcase your artworks.

Decentraland

Decentraland is one of the first metaverses created on Ethereum and has a vibrant community of builders and visitors. Users can purchase land with MANA, Decentraland’s native token, on which they can build any experience they like. It comes with a builder software if you want to create everything from scratch, but users can also visit the metazone.io marketplace to purchase ready-made creations. Decentraland doesn’t support MP4 displays yet so expect only stills in your gallery. There is no support for VR headsets yet and Decentraland is a fully browser-based platform at this time.

Cryptovoxel

Cryptovoxels is a virtual world powered by the Ethereum blockchain. Players can buy land, build stores and art galleries with ETH. Editing tools, avatars and text chat are built in. Cryptovoxel has an aesthetic similar to the game Minecraft, but can display any type of file so the gallery experience is not distorted. Cryptovoxel supports both a browser-based and a VR experience for users.

Somnium

Somnium Space is a VR world on the Ethereum blockchain, where players can buy land, build or import NFTs, explore, and trade. Participants can instantly join from any device via Somnium WEB client or download the Somnium application locally on their computer to immerse themselves into persistent worlds via VR headsets. Somnium Space has its own token, the CUBE, but players can also purchase land and items with ETH on the marketplace. Both mp4 and still files are supported.

Sandbox

Sandbox Game is a virtual world on Ethereum where players can buy land and items with SAND (Sandbox’s native token), build their own experiences, and connect with players. It is still in pre-launch, but it will support stills at launch and MP4s are expected soon after and offer a web-based experience to start.

OnCyber

OnCyber is a customizable virtual gallery space which connects to your Ethereum wallet to display your collection. It is not a metaverse, as anyone can build their gallery for free without the need to own land or a piece of the metaverse. It’s sole purpose is to offer a great gallery experience to artists and collectors, providing a simpler UX. It supports any file, links to the piece’s page on OpenSea, and provides additional information on the artwork and its creator.

Galeryst

Galeryst allows its users to create virtual galleries with up to 80 artworks displayed for free. This platform was created to enable artists to create a 3D virtual gallery online and share their work with the world while creating a gallery experience virtually, especially after the closure of in-person galleries due to the global pandemic. To get started, you need to log in with an adobe account.

Mona

Mona is an open metaverse that supports the creation of unique and beautiful 3D spaces to create exceptional immersive experiences. They have multiplayer options, artist royalties, interactivity builders, token-gated access & events and AR & VR support. The spaces are unique 3D environments that can be minted on the Ethereum or Polygon blockchain and that can hold any unique digital assets placed within them.
